Kripalu Yoga
Kripalu Yoga is a style of yoga based in compassion. Located in western Massachusetts, the Kripalu Center is recognized as one of the top mindfulness retreat centers in the world. I am lucky to have studied and taught at the Kripalu Center.
Some yoga teachers choose to train with a variety of styles. I have chosen to deepen my practice and my teaching almost entirely through the Kripalu Center. I do this because both the physical location at Kripalu and the style of teaching resonate with me deeply.
Many Kripalu teachers and visitors have said they experience a feeling of "being home" when they arrive at Kripalu. I'm one of those teachers. When I arrived at the Kripalu Center for my first time I had this strange feeling I had been there before. At the same time I had another feeling of this place being totally new. It was almost as if I had found my home that I had never been to.
I love teaching Kripalu Yoga because it is suitable for almost everyone. Classes can range from extremely gentle to vigorous. This range allows the style to suit the needs of all types of ages, body types and body limitations.
Kripalu Yoga also aims to take the teachings "off the mat" and into the world. This means the things we learn while practicing yoga on our mats can and should be applied to our everyday lives. Be more patient at home with your family. Be more alert at work. Have better control of your movements in sports. Control your emotions. The benefits of Kripalu yoga extend far beyond the physical.
If you have never been to the Kripalu center I highly recommend a visit! Check out their website to see a full list of their workshops. You can also visit Kripalu for a rest and relaxation retreat if you prefer that over a workshop. Personally, I have preferred the additional structure and learning of workshops but both options are great.
